same time, next year

Well as birthdays go, this one’s been a doozy and it isn’t even a milestone year (I’ll be seeking therapy for those, I’m sure). I had a nice day off yesterday and dinner last night with Jenifer and Michael was fantastic. We went to Georgia Brown’s and it really was one hell of a meal, I had the Cornmeal-Crusted Catfish Fingers, which were good, but better with a few dashes of hot sauce, then a side of grits with my meal of Low Country Roasted Chicken. Sooooo much food, but so good. The dessert was nice but not great, Pecan Pie with Jack Daniels Chocolate ice cream.

I’m finding it hard to explain to others and the odd server that I am not a big dessert person. Now it’s my birthday, so its hard to refuse the end of meal cake and stuff, but at each occasion I either had someone share it with me, or I was desperately trying to get through it on my own, like some twisted version of childhood, “You’ll eat every bite of that chocolate cake and you’ll LIKE it mister!”

Jenifer got me some very nice gifts, mostly stuff that I’d seen while out shopping in various kitchen stores, but nothing that I recall particularly whining about, since this is often a prime motivator in her gifts to me. Got me a new knife tho, just a few more on my own and I can get rid of my crappy constructed (but professionally sharpened) knife set at home. Also a silicon potholder/trivet and Ice Kabobs (Everything’s more fun on a stick!)

After dinner we headed over to Halo, their downstairs floor is finished now and I guess I enjoyed the upstairs so much, the lower floor doesn’t seem to be as much fun. But did appear to have more space and we didn’t have a choice as the upstairs was closed off. Michael may have been right in thinking that they wouldn’t be able to fill both floors on a weeknight.

Tonight’s more food & merriment with Jhim, but details on that later! I could definitely get used to this whole hanging out with people on a regular basis thing. I haven’t even thought much about my CoV beta invite in a few days, aside from the friends who are missing my presence there. Though I am looking forward to actually seeing The Daily Show now, bless you TiVo! I can’t do a lot of the other cool tricks I’m seeing around the net yet, because my device doesn’t have the most recent software upgrade, apparently that’s what I’ll need to transfer videos back to my PC or laptop and a slew of other fun tricks.

And the TiVo, which needs a name soon – something appropriately evil, has already started trying to tell me what kind of tv watcher I am. This morning it recorded things like Winnie the Pooh and Clifford! WTF?
