frustrated observations

I’m in charge this week, which usually means I can’t do any actual work because I’m assigning and reporting and collecting data, etc. So I took a quick moment to look for a book to use the remains of a Target gift card (thank you CJ) from my birthday. I want to pick up Fledgling, by Octavia Butler.

So I look at Target’s listing for the book, fair price, but the availability is usually ships within 1 to 3 weeks. This seems a little funky to me considering the book is readily available in most places, 1 to 3 weeks seems excessive. And then I notice that their book (and music & dvd) search is powered by amazon.com, so I go over there to check thinking maybe they had a run on the book and it’s just not readily available. According to amazon.com’s listing, the book is at the same good price, 34% off list, and the availability? Usually ships within 24 hours.

So.. um.. wha-huh? What are they doing, walking the book from amazon’s warehouse over to Target’s and then shipping it?

In the grand scheme of things, this is just a minor rant and I’ll likely go to a local bookstore and support them, but it would have been nice to have one less thing in my pockets trying to use it up. He got me the monster shaped gift card which is cute and glows in the dark.. but doesn’t quite fit in my wallet. 🙂

Ok, back to non-work.
