You’ll never have a bored day
Another week and I’ll be a New York City boy, for the weekend anyway. I was chatting with David last weekend and he invited me up. He and I are probably close to what would be a perfect couple, with the exception that he lives in NY and I’m in DC and neither of us has any inclination to move to the other’s city anytime in the near future. I’ve only gotten to see him when he’s down visiting his family around the holidays.
Needless to say I’m a bit nervous, but I need some time away. I almost never take vacations, except when I use the hours to visit family at holiday time. The companies I’ve been with have let me accumulate and roll it over, so it’s never been a problem. Hell when I was laid off from CSC, my vacation time payout was worth over 3 months rent, a big help! But I do need to take more time off, so I’m going with baby steps. A weekend in the city with an attractive man would do me a world of good.
The last time I was in New York as an adult was on a very bad blind/internet date with this boy in Chelsea. Now he was no knockout fashion plate dream date himself, but definitely a
Chelsea Boy and he was clearly expecting something else when I arrived and he made no effort to hide that fact. Still I admire him taking me out and about to various clubs and bars. I went up on Dec 30 and the plan was to enjoy New Year’s Eve together, but he was such a welcoming host that I decide to cut bait and drive back to Delaware, definitely a bit wiser for the experience. I will say that there are fewer experiences worse than sharing a bed with someone that you are 100% sure doesn’t want you there, he was too tired/lazy to deal with the pull out sofa bed when we got in.
My only memory of visiting New York before then is when my aunt Dazola and her man Cyprian (if that wasn’t his name, it’s close) lived there. I recall visiting the Statue of Liberty and being carried up the steps that went all the way to the top (I conked out easily as a child). So I’m looking forward to having a great time. With David in charge of the excursions, I’m not worried.
My shoulder feels better today. Waking up on it was a bit of a chore, but I get like that when I hurt my back. I think I’d be better if I could sleep standing up for those times. Next time I’m going to put a damp towel in the microwave and use that instead of a heating wrap. If I had wrapping gauze around the house maybe I could have better secured it, and it was a nice sensation, but I was hoping for a little more heat. Not scorching my skin, obviously, but with the temperature in my place last night, I don’t think there was much difference between my surface temp and the heat pads. I wouldn’t want an injury getting in the way of any weekend activities with David. I’m talking tourism of course! I also discovered a zit on my nose during this morning’s mirror time. Lovely.
On the bright side, my slight change in eating habits is definitely working. It’s slowly shedding some weight. I’ve been having a banana in the morning with my latte, tuna salad for lunch on some days and an orange and applesauce on other days, and in the afternoon I’ll have a banana or cup of applesauce about an hour or so before heading home from the office. It lets me save up my calories for dinner, or perhaps a cocktail or two beforehand. I doubt that I will ever see the 160s again, but I’d be happy with being somewhere in the 180s as a start, maybe 170s to stop. I don’t need to be super skinny again, but I’d like to have a little less bulk. Clearly the 30’s metabolism slow down has hit me and I’ve no desire to completely change the way I eat, but small changes in behavior are acceptable.
