Being neighborly

I’m finally turning my attention to catching up on my many food blogs, and one that I’ve been looking forward to is Tea & Cookies. It’s primarily a food blog, but each entry is a well-written essay with fantastic photos and it makes me think that my own writing is crap at times.

In an entry from Tuesday last week Tea was having a particularly bad day and her neighbor came by to borrow some kitchen equipment…

Then, offhandedly, you say you need a mojito. She asks you what a mojito is and you explain that it’s a Cuban cocktail made with mint, lime, rum, and soda water. She says it sounds good and you agree that, indeed, they do hit the spot. You don’t drink much these days, but every once in a while you get the hankering.

And it’s not ten minutes later when the doorbell rings and your neighbor is standing there, a glass filled with mint, lime, and rum in her hand, a smile on her face. “Here,” she says. “I think you could use this.”

And that, my dear friends, is what being neighborly is all about.

I could use neighbors like that. I hope y’all enjoy Tea & Cookies as much as I do.

Maybe I should make a habit of this, “Suggest-A-Blog Thursday” — what’s a blog you read that you suspect isn’t already in your friends reading lists?
