Would this be Barrio Fabulous?

Vividly painted vehicle spotted on Mount Pleasant Street.

Some days, I really love my neighborhood. I headed out for a snack on Saturday after the cable guy left and this beauty was parked out back behind my building along Mt. Pleasant Street. I only wished the driver had been in the car so I could ask them to honk the horn. I bet it plays a culturally appropriate symphony.

Or maybe the owner is a crimefighter: El Carro! The car of Zorro!

Perhaps this is a subversive way of teaching Español to those moving into the neighbourhood now that it’s gentrifying. Lemme know if you run into a boca de incendios (fire hydrant) or a banco (bench).

  2. uh, and what symphony would that be, exactly?

Fredo: I bet if Borf were still free, he might take up that challenge.

grizzle: Honestly the last time I heard a musical car horn it was during a parade. Mostly what I hear from my apartment at all hours of the day is the standard “I’m going to express the sum of both my patience and my opinion of your driving skills through leaning on my horn… repeatedly.”

I do have fond memories growing up of hearing car horns play “Dixie”, “La Cucaracha” and “Spanish Flea.” Thankfully no one around here feels the need to kit out their cars with such accessories instead favoring very high-end stereos with speakers so direct that everyone outside the car can likely hear the music better than the driver can. 🙂
