Card: tolerant government = ‘my mortal enemy’?
This is making the rounds a bit today and has been since the editorial was published. Orson Scott Card, popular ❓ sci-fi writer, who has included homosexual characters in his books ‘to create real and living characters’ is really quite adamant on gay marriage and the law:
Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn.
I’ve never read any of Card’s works, though I have been made aware of his views on homosexuality before, which he defends with a ‘love the sinner’ cop-out, however he still believe that laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the books. Still, I don’t know what kind of reaction this is going to get, the more widespread the article becomes.
