All this fuss over a number!
Even though I had to sort of set aside today to take care of some chores and business, I am actually enjoying my time off. The staycation, so far, is a success. The main errand from today, however, was a pain in the ass!
For the second time in my life, I misplaced my Social Security Card. I’m perfectly certain that it’s around here, but… I dunno where. And the SSA is no DMV! I got there early, and there were maybe 7 or 8 people ahead of me, not too bad. Unfortunately they didn’t open until 9a and I was there around 8:20! Once we got in, there was an automated “director” that you entered in what you want and it assigned you a number and a ticket. The computerized version of the “information” desk, however it didn’t tell you anything that you’d need to get things done. The security guard tried to help people by at least directing them to the one-form-fits-all on the table. The room kept getting full and the employees seemed to slow down a bit, but finally after an hour, I was called–and I was first for a replacement card/name change. Once I got to the woman, she was kind and friendly and even teased me a bit about losing the card. If it weren’t for the wait, it would have been just fine!
It’s like I said earlier, when the DMV takes less time than your agency, that just seems like a problem to me. Still, the delay fit in perfectly with the plans for the rest of the day, so it was all good and it wasn’t a stressful visit, just a long one.
