Back to (Prop) 8 for a minute

I absolutely love this ad produced for No On Prop 8:

More videos here. Like many things, this issue should be a no-brainer, but I really like the simple analogy presented above. I also marvel at how the simple staging for Apple’s Mac vs. PC ads so resonates with people that it has been copied time and time again for various issues. Whether producing haterade about Apple and their smug ads or something completely unrelated to technology.

It’s fun and its succinct. I haven’t seen this one on TV yet, but it needs to be on more. Hopefully, it helps reaching the younger voters for whom the commercial should resonate with the most.

Though I don’t think this is an “official” ad, at least it’s not one I’ve seen on TV, the good news is that among those folks who have seen both sides’ ads, the No vote is winning. What that means for the vote on the actual day is anybody’s guess. I still think we’re facing a coin toss, though there seem to be a few things on our side. With California in the bag for Obama, the McCain campaign (and its support) self-destructing, and no other big, controversial votes or issues on the ballot it seems likely that conservative turn out might be low. My main concern is that the ones who really care about this proposition are the gays and the religious nuts and I worry that we’re out numbered by the nuts. Thankfully, we seem to have a lot of popular friends (Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg, Ellen DeGeneres, George Takei…)
