work: this is getting to be a habit

President Obama, followed by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, waves upon his arrival at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, Feb. 17, 2009.

I gotta say, it’s been a pretty good few months for this new building. 43rd President, 44th First Lady and today the 44th President and Vice-President. From what I understand, historically, these visits are a pretty big deal since the last administration didn’t visit but the one time.

Naturally this morning has been filled with moaning employees: the Starbucks is too busy, I can’t use my usual entrance, the cafeteria’s closed, I couldn’t park in the building… People, the President of the United States is visiting, don’t you think there might need to be more than a few security precautions? It’s even worse since these are the exact same procedures followed back in November when the last President visited. This is nothing new.

Oh this is good. A co-worker just stood on his chair, peering over the yellow security tape to see if he could get a view of the podium. He was then surprised to see a security guard standing right behind him. Really?!

Of course the irony of all this is that just sitting at my desk, I’ll be physically closer to Obama and Biden than my last-minute-plans family were for Inauguration. Though to see him, we’ll both have to watch a video screen.

Still, it is pretty cool.

That is cool that you can be several feet away from the President. There are people who would touch the hem of Obama’s garments if they could.

Why do you keep getting visits? Are they going to shut down your agency or something?
