Beyoncé: Move Your Body!
All those friends and co-workers that make fun of me for loving Dance Central… take that! Beyoncé has re-written and re-recorded her song “Get Me Bodied” for the Let’s Move! project, supporting First Lady Michelle Obama’s childhood obesity campaign. Titling it “Move Your Body,” she dances to her tune with kids in a school cafeteria.
The video will be shown in participating middle schools across the US on May 3rd at 1:42pm for a workout event, co-sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).
“I am excited to be part of this effort that addresses a public health crisis,” Beyoncé said. “First Lady Michelle Obama deserves credit for tackling this issue directly, and I applaud the NAB Education Foundation for trying to make a positive difference in the lives of our schoolchildren.”
I still love to dance–even if I might look a little old to do it–so it’s great to see that dance is being acknowledged as a great way to stay in shape. To many people, it’s certainly a more attractive aerobic activity than plain exercise. Instructional videos have been posted if you’d like to learn the moves… I’m pretty sure they’ll still work even if you’re over middle school age.
Looks like The Daily Mail collected some of the best photos, but there are news stories and videos from around the nation about schoolkids bustin’ the moves and getting a good workout. I’m having a ball clicking through articles, watching the videos and occasionally cringing at local news anchors, but it’s clear that the students had fun, even the ones that say they can’t dance. On occasion, I might say the same thing. Still, while I doubt my own Dougie skills, I can keep up with the rest of it just fine.
I suppose with all this encouragement, it’s about time I put on Dance Central at home again and moved my body! 😛
