Office Decorum

Would it be considered too passive-aggressive to leave pamphlets on how to behave professionally in the workplace around my office?

Friday the 13th, so far…

Y’know what? I’m not superstitious, but this Friday the 13th has been making it really difficult to get into TGIF mode. Here’s hoping that writing about it will help bring an early end to the Murphy’s Law field surrounding me all day!

“This is a note to a filthy jerk…”

I’ve seen a few notes in my office about shared fridge behavior before, but this passive aggressive note absolutely takes the cake. Thieves beware… for your very souls!

Go Up, Go Down, or GTFO!

This post is mainly to test a new feature I’m trying to add to the blog, but there’s some of my fun rambling attached as well! — I’ve written more than a few posts about elevators, people and elevator etiquette before, and as much as I try to ignore it, it still baffles me…

Best Cat GIF Ever?

I don’t know if this is really the best cat GIF ever, but it’s certainly giving me a smile this morning. If I had energy like that? Who’d need coffee?! — Revisiting an old favorite. At times, Facebook’s “On This Day” is good for making me laugh instead of making me sad.

Beset on all sides!

Some days, it just isn’t fair. You try to do your best, but temptation creeps in everywhere no matter what you do. But I shall be strong and stand firm. Brave, stalwart, yadda yadda… Yesterday was the first day I...

Caller ID? New Phone, Who Dis?

No, I will likely not text you that back–unless you’re asking my help to move, or paint your house. But I am a big fan of Caller ID which is pretty much useless these days. I can’t say whether it’s...

People Can Die From Exposure

[The first in a pair–perhaps later a series?–of articles about work, ownership and compensation online. What I have to say is nothing new, but hopefully can add to the growing chorus of voices about it.] Recently Wil Wheaton went off...

Julio Salgado: POC TV Show Takeover

Artist Julio Salgado has engaged in a POC TV Show Takeover! Recently there was some outrage–which I got caught up in a little bit–about a supposed “group” of Star Wars fans who were upset over Episode VII: The Force Awakens...

Getting My House in Order

Nothing like a good cleaning to get things nice and tidy! Except that I hate cleaning, I hate tidying, I hate chores. I accept that clutter is my default mode, although I also realize that it shouldn’t be. Not that...

Machines are Writing Clickbait

This is slightly terrifying. In a post earlier this week, I joked that clickbait headlines and not CAPTCHA will be the one thing that helps separate man from machine. Well, developer Lars Eidnes has created a recurrent neural network (RNN)...

Gold Star and a Cookie?

I haven’t written about work in a while, even though that place gives me a ridiculous amount of material because, well, it’s work. And sometimes it’s best left in the office. Plus I’m not too hard to find on the...

Weather Channel 2015-16 Winter Storm Names

Even though there’s still a little contention over their doing so, The Weather Channel has released their list of 2015-16 Winter Storm Names with explanations of the names. “It’s simply easier to communicate about a complex storm if it has...
