7 years on…

It’s been 7 years since my first round of cancer treatments was finished, my cancer-versary. It only sort of counts since I did have to go back for a second set of treatments for another site, but that gets its own cancer-versary… mostly because I enjoy celebrating things.

Ghibellina: Gamberi e Polenta

Tried a new place for brunch a few weekends ago, Ghibellina on 14th St NW. Had a lovely shrimp and polenta dish and overall enjoyed the experience. Would definitely head back for another visit.

Ten Years On…

Just thinking about 2007 now that we’re ten years on from it. I’m moderately more of an adult now than I was then, but I miss a little bit of my carefree shenanigans and not feeling weighed down by everything. Julia Child… (and Her Amazing Friends)

Curly Q by John Getchel. A clever blend of light painting, night photography, long exposure and the right location results in a gorgeous shot.

Alexandria Library Sit-In (1939)

On August 21, 1939, five citizens of the city walked into library and sat at one of its reading tables. Though surrounded by the wisdom of the ages, they were denied access to the thoughts on the shelves around them for a reason as implausible as the color of their skin. For merely being in the room, they were arrested.

Cleveland Park, Rainy Sunday

Cleveland Park is both cute and photogenic, even on grey and rainy days. Just a few pictures taken while wandering around and waiting for my brunch spot to open.

Guy Laroche, Ebony Fashion Fair

This Guy Laroche evening suit perfectly embodies this quote. “If you’re not dressed in the most refined, glittering fabrics, you must be glowing in the richest colors imaginable.” — Eunice Johnson

Mid-Century Modern: 1951 Armstrong Flooring Catalog

I’ve always had a fondness for the mid-century modern era’s ability to create an alternate “perfect reality” in their ads. Check out these delightful pictures from the 1951 Armstrong Flooring Catalog from flickr user mcudeque. A better idea for family...
