Are you watching closely?

It finally happened… again. I got on the wrong metro train this morning. I haven’t done that while commuting in DC for at least 15 years. This is both hilarious and mortifying.

metro: what’s your number?

I don’t mean your sleep number, or WMATA’s information number, or even the digits of that hottie you see everyday who doesn’t even take any notice of you, but the optimal number of minutes to your next train. Mine, in...

in DC: Run Run Run!

Running for a train, I can understand completely… but running OFF of a train and potentially knocking down other commuters in the process? S’wrong with you?

in DC: metro seat hog blues

So it’s already Monday, right? I made it halfway to the metro station when I realized I forgot my phone. I go back upstairs to get it and just as I lock the door, realized I forgot one other thing.1...

5.1: Struck in DC

In the time I’ve lived here, I have seen DC become more populated by cars while at the same time appearing to become a less car-friendly city. I don’t mean that the city’s government and infrastructure is hostile to vehicle owners and drivers, simply that the city seems to already have reached its critical mass in terms of being able to accommodate as many drivers as we have.

5.1: FixWMATA

If you live or work in the DC area, chances are you’ve used Metro–bus or rail–to get where you’re going in the city. I’ve lived in the area for nearly 15 years now and there was only a 3-month period...

Um… surprise hiatus? Yeah, sorry about that, but it’s been a bit of an exhausting few weeks with not much else going on to report.

in DC: creative express

Just one of those “Ha ha, neat!” moments from this morning’s commute. Normally both the Express and Examiner guys are out there, handing out the free daily papers. Sometimes neither is there* and the riders self-serve. I thought today would...

on metro: pick a winner!

This past week, Kyle and I were talking about how it always seems that on metro, when you see a bona fide hottie, that someone will always come along a few seconds later and completely block your view. Not that...

spam: ur (almost) doin it wrong

I’ve seen some pretty poorly done spam since moving to WordPress, but the following is about the most well-done I’m a real person and not a robot, I swear! spam comment I’ve gotten in a while: Not that I’m totally...

on metro: Is that your bag?

After all these years, I finally had a real live “Is that your bag?” moment on the metro. It had nothing to do with combating terrorism or anything like that. I just didn’t want the poor guy to leave his...

You’re all in on it!!

I had my own little conspiracy theory moment this morning on the train. I was watching this past Monday’s episode of Heroes on my iPhone. My DVR had to reboot itself right before the start of the show, so I...

commuting: Ha-haw!

The Examiner’s top story today is: D.C. maintains rank as nation’s second-longest commute. It took me a little while to find it online since a search for “DC second commute time” easily brought up both this story and this video...

Hey… let’s be careful out there

Wouldn’t you know this morning the woman in Starbucks didn’t offer me a receipt? Then another woman, after the first had just ripped mine off the top of the long printout of abandoned receipts, took it and was about to...

metro omens

When you arrive at your “work” stop and the moment you step off the car another train pulls in that would take you back home… doesn’t that seem like a sign that you should just take it? Go back home,...
