A few links for Sunday Brunch
It’s hard to tell if Mary is expressing her inner gay man, inner drag queen or combining the two for an inner Ru Paul in her video for “Just Fine,” but who cares?
Maybe a little Diana Ross and Whitney in there too. I think I’m looking forward to this album.
I’m trying to peruse (catch up on) my RSS feeds and a few stories are jumping out from various places.
Three young male actors, aged 18, 21 and 26, were infected with HIV whilst making a British bareback gay porn film last month. The boys were performing alongside a 26 year old actor who had tested negative several weeks before production, but it later transpired that he was HIV positive at the time of filming.
Not really sure what to say to this. You read the headline and you’re instantly concerned but not surprised. It’s a horrible thing to have happen, especially in a professional environment, of sorts, where the actors trust that precautions are being taken, but hopefully the story will spread so that people who are having unprotected sex as the norm (and aren’t bug chasers/givers) will realize that just because someone says they’ve been tested and are negative, doesn’t mean that they are.
Since 1993, more than 11,000 people have been discharged from the services because of their homosexuality. Of those, 800 were in positions deemed “mission-critical” by the Pentagon. Those would be combat engineers, medical professionals and linguists (58 of whom spoke Arabic) — the very people the Army, Navy and Air Force were looking for when their job postings showed up on GLEE.com, which stands for Gay, Lesbian & Everyone Else.
The old guard at the Pentagon doesn’t understand how the internet works… big shock, that one. I don’t deny that many people paying services for ad placement have absolutely no idea where their ads are going to pop up, but this seems like something that they might want to keep tighter reins on.
Oh My Gods, why have I not been watching 30 Rock?! Hilarious!
I ran across this via Unclutterer. Since I’m trying to unclutter my apartment, I may as well see what could be applied to my blog. I wonder if some of these are redundant as most people use RSS readers to catch up on many of their regular reads, myself included. But in most all cases if you want to make a comment, you’ll have to visit the site itself, and I have tried to remove most of the slow-loading elements in my sidebars, but I could always trim it down a bit… maybe. I still think I’ve modified the design to make the content key, but perhaps there are some worthy changes in there. I like the idea of the blogroll getting its own page, primarily because I feel like even if I push it to the top of the page, it doesn’t really get enough attention there.
I dunno what’s on for the rest of the day, I have some netflix movies to get through and of course more cleaning. I may have to take a ½-day tomorrow from work while I work with the building maintenance dude to get my keys back. That’ll be fun.
