in DC: A Charlie Brown Christmas

still: A Charlie Brown Christmas A Charlie Brown Christmas listening party, that is! All of Guaraldi’s music for the various Charlie Brown specials is amazing, but the Christmas album is one that I will listen to any time of the year without ever thinking it’s “too early”.

This Friday night, December 14, Washington, DC’s Som Records at 1843 14th Street NW will be hosting A Charlie Brown Christmas Listening Party in celebration of the re-release of the Vince Guaraldi Soundtrack in green vinyl.

DC’s Som Records will also have limited copies of the album available for purchase and plan to spin the LP randomly all evening. Look for the TVD HQ team to be about with seasonally festive green bottles of “adult sodas” for the asking.

Record stores are slowly but surely disappearing as technology marches on, but if you’re an enthusiast, or you just love A Charlie Brown Christmas, this is a great reason to swing by.

I never had the album on vinyl, but I do remember the warmth of listening to jazz on vinyl–occasional scratches and all–that just doesn’t always come across digitally. Of course, being the modern guy that I am, when I make my way down to see the National Christmas Tree, I’ll have my iPhone earbuds in and the Vince Guaraldi playlist ready.
