From the Post: Smoking Ban Gaining In D.C.

Council member Carol Schwartz (R-At Large), chairman of the committee and the council’s strongest opponent of a ban, said that the District is unlike other cities and states because it relies so heavily on the hospitality industry and that out-of-state competition is just a quick Metro ride away in Virginia or Prince George’s County.

Considering the number of people FROM nearby VA and MD that come into the District, you’d think the out-of-state competition would totally welcome and support the ban. Stop fooling yourselves about DC’s venues only being a lure because people can smoke in them.

Besides, wouldn’t DC residents like having one less smell lingering in the air of the District?

Oh, I don’t know, any distraction from the acrid odor of human urine is a welcome addition in my book!
