I think most of us are adult enough to realize that the stunned silence after saying something inappropriate is the universe giving you a chance to apologize…
I had an absolutely wonderful time at Doug’s party and game day. I met new LJ people and we had fun playing games and being generally goofy and relaxed, but a guest said something pretty offensive to me. I didn’t take them to task for it, but there was a momentary collected silence and I said it wasn’t cool. I doubt it was intentional, I don’t even think they realized what they said… I just find it hard to accept that as an excuse.
As I said before, there are certain things that I just don’t think people should say, but I don’t feel that people should police themselves all the time, everywhere. But maybe just think about what you’re saying before you say it.. instead of trying to play the clueless card. Personally, I’m always on the side of people can say whatever people want to say, but it is irresponsible of them to be unaware of how others might react (like the young ‘redneck’ Jacksonville kid).
Happy Birthday again Doug (
