Tennant: “When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me.”
Dan sent me an SMS as soon as he heard, and it hit the BBC News site barely an hour ago, but I still had to see it and hear it for myself. I can’t believe it, I don’t like it, but I do understand.

No disservice to Eccelston because he brought the Doctor back, but Tennant gives–gave 😥 –the role a certain magic that not only evoked the classic feeling of Doctor Who, but also set a new standard for the series and for modern televised science fiction as well. And as great as he is in the role, even I wouldn’t want this haunting him for the rest of his career. I mean when people went to see Equus on broadway, they weren’t going to see Daniel Radcliffe on stage, they were going to see Harry Potter’s penis. Tennant’s currently starring with Patrick Stewart in Hamlet as it is, that’s firing tons of geek cylinders already!
Besides, we’ve still got four 2009 specials to look forward to, and this just gets the rumors flowing as to who will be the next to play The Doctor. 😀
sad face!!
but yeah, it is understandable. he’s done a fantastic job and flirted admirably with men and women both. 🙂
This is a bummer for sure. David Tennant was much fun as the Doctor.
My wish-list item for 2010 is for the Doctor to visit the 22nd century. He marooned his grandaughter in that era, so a reunion is overdue.
Other than that, it will be interesting to see who plays the Doctor.
@shindo: I think the grandaughter returned for at least the Five Doctors, maybe something else as well. It was always speculated that she was from Gallifrey, but who knows what part she may have played in the current Who-niverse.
For more than just the obvious reason, I’d love for them to give Paterson Joseph a chance at the role. He’s been both hilarious and occasionally menacing in roles that I’ve seen him play. But all of the names in the rumor mill are good actors.
I’ve heard rumors about the replacement choice, and I only hope that the replacement isn’t who was presented to me. I like Tennant, I love Doctor Who passionately and I still feel cheated we had so little time with Eccleston. But that’s OK. Tennant did a great job and he’s had his run – I’m sure he’d like more career now. 🙂
Aw, rats. Still, the Doctor continues as he has for 9 other actors.
I will miss him. It is sad to see him go, but it is probably for the best. It is better to leave on a high note than it is to wait until no one would miss him.
Poop. I’m still curious to see if they’ll pull in Jennifer Saunders — even if just for a little bit
Couldnt have put it better myself Brian. Was kinda devastating losing Catherine Tate at the end of the last series… what are we going to have to cling to at the end of the specials with Tennant gone? 🙁 Good on him though for having the balls to get out….
Did you watch the rest of the awards? See Sylar on the pre and after show stuff?
