ads: “Put it in me, Scott.”

I’m only posting this because I saw an edited version on tv a few minutes ago and compared to the original, it was nowhere near as funny… or disturbing. Last week, AdFreak posted a Quiznos ad created by Nitro to feature their new $4 foot long sandwiches. Most likely to counter Subway’s catchy “five dollar footlong” ads.

I have to agree with AdFreak’s assessment:

Say what you will about the disturbing implications of this ad, but you’d be hard-pressed to forget the point: that Quiznos has foot-long meat tubes just waiting to be jammed in the hotbox for you. Oh, and they’re $4.

The things that really sell the ad are is the line, “Not doing that again. Got burned.” and the raised eyebrows after the oven’s command. It’s one where even though the commercial doesn’t dwell on the product for the full 30 seconds, there’s no way you’ll forget it or what it’s for. The friends that have mentioned catching the original ad it to me weren’t even watching tv at the time, they overheard it and were all, “Wha?!” The revised version is nowhere near as… satisfying.

Update: My mistake. Both ads are running, but the sanitized one seems to be in use for the earlier time slots and is probably considered more “family friendly.”

Funny thing is I see the double entendre as asexual, it could be taken many ways by anyone. It’s brilliant advertising like Quiznos usually does. Maybe the modification was planned – either way, the image is out there, we’ve all heard it, and all we need is a small reminder to go back to that sexy “Just four dollars” delivery.

I wrote something about this last week. This Subway/ Quiznos war must end! Hopefully it will end with both of them offering $1 sandwiches.

Why the hell would they change it? It was getting all the buzz.

They are still playing the original ad here in Memphis. I nearly piss myself laughing every time I see it. Quiznos hit gold with this one.

  5. As a “Scott” the commercial appealed to me. When I first saw the commercial and the oven asked to put it in him, my mind just went to so many places! Give it to Quiznos to come up with these commercials!

Saw the full commercial last night for the first time. My wife and I just stared. Is it a coincidence that the end of the commercial shows hands wrapped around these foot-long phalluses all at 45-degree angles? I think not. There’s subtle, and then theres, well, this commercial.

That commercial is one of the most fantastic things I’ve ever seen. I fall off the futon laughing whenever it comes on; similarly, I sing along to the new McD’s Filet O’ Fish commercial. Woo!

    P.S. – nice to meet you! 🙂

@Meaghan: GIMMIE THAT FISH! (I sing along, too.)

Oh, and I also noticed when he says, “Got burned,” he actually looks down at his crotch. That was so not subtle.
