summer: I wanna dip my fries in it!

5 Guys: Lunch in the sun

Even though it happened yesterday at lunch, I can unofficially consider this to be how my weekend started. Oh it’s been a rather foul and moody week at the office. The massive amounts of sunshine have helped, but a 3-day weekend will be even nicer. I’m hoping to take a day trip in the opposite direction of the beach-goers, though I wouldn’t mind a beach trip at some point this year.

Marx Cafe: Sangria Night

Still, the Five Guys indulgence didn’t fail to satisfy, though sangria night with Kyle at Marx Cafe was a bit more mixed last night. This is my second visit there where the sangria had clearly been made without sugar. I have nothing against drinking straight red wine, but cold red wine, watered down by ice with chunks of fruit in it? No thanks. I mentioned this to the server and she was shocked that the sangria wasn’t sweet, however I noticed that she didn’t try it herself to confirm. Other customers kept ordering it, so either it’s just me, or those rubes just don’t know any better.* The small plates/tapas were delicious, as always, and they’re ½-price during Happy Hour** (5-7) so that was a bonus!

Since the office will be a ghost town today, I expect there will be little to aggravate my mood so I can head into the weekend sufficiently pleasant. I think once I leave here today, I might start it off with a nap.

* It should be obvious which answer my money’s on.

** I know, I know, I missed out on another local blogger happy hour. Trust me, the mood I’ve been in, my presence wouldn’t have been much fun.

Good to know about the Sangria at Marx Cafe. I am thinking I may enjoy a glass or two out in the sun today to start off this holiday weekend right.

@Shaw Girl: It should be noted that every other time I’ve been there (aside from the last two), the sangria was excellent. But for people like you and I, sticking to homemade is probably for the best. 😉

I assume this means you have a killer sangria recipe. But will you share it?

I’ve never made sangria with sugar. I’m a fan of (red wine+fruit)*time in the fridge, then serve over ice. Some people add brandy. I don’t know if this means I’m doing something wrong, or if it means I’m doing something different.

I think I need to make some Sangria but yet again I find myself with no one to share it with, I wish I was back in Barcelona sipping Sangria on the veranda overlooking the beach but such is life.

    I hope your doing well!
