TGIF: Woo Hoo!
That pretty much sums it up. Been a long-ass (and unintentionally blog-quiet) week and I’m ready for the weekend. TGIF, bitches! 
My brain has opted to take off early today as it’s still suffering a bit from last night’s Golden Girls Happy Hour at EFN Lounge. Michael, Fredo, James and I joined forces to form a queer man’s Fantastic Four and walked over after a quick bite.
This is the second happy hour I’ve been to at EFN Lounge/Motley Bar (formerly be bar) since they re-branded themselves. The Friday night “Bear Happy Hour” upstairs was fun, but way too crowded and the upstairs floor’s air conditioning was not up to the task of cooling down a bunch of… full-figured* guys filling the place to capacity. Hopefully that was just a one-time issue and it’s since been fixed.
Last night was much more fun, they play Golden Girls episodes projected onto the walls and drag queen hostess Binaca Devereaux asks trivia questions of the crowd. It was very low-key, a term I rarely use for any event presided over by a drag queen, but she was friendly and funny and didn’t have the usual “I’m talking now, you shut up” meltdowns that I’m used to from this region’s drag performers. The bar maybe had 25-30 people present, no crowds to overcome and we didn’t have to shout at each other to be heard. There was a team of Golden Girls aficionados and they did get snippy once or twice when they insisted questions were imprecise or answers were incorrect, but still Fredo won himself a bar tab with an obscure and–of course–correct answer.**
With the 2-for-1 drink specials (on all drinks, it seemed) from 5-9pm, I could see arranging another GG night out. Though it must be said that when 9pm hit, the bar cleared out. It was just the four of us, the bartenders and one cute guy that wandered around looking a bit shell-shocked by the sudden exodus.
I’ll just have to brush up on my trivia for next time… or make sure to bring Fredo again!
* In some cases, to say the least.
** A feat which surprised none of us. His GG knowledge is easily encyclopedic.
Golden Girls trivia!!!???!?!!! I’m like a HUGE GG fan! I wish I’d known because that is so up my alley!

Have really been enjoying the Motly Bar vibe — I REALLY like the fact that music levels allow conversation!!! I understand the S&M (stand & model) idea but that is not why I go to the bar any longer. It is nice to have a place where you be social and/or flirty without having to shout.
BTW, they have done a very good job of addressing the temperature issue on Friday night. And they serve pizza at 8:00 pm — they seem to know how to keep the bear crowd happy!

Well, I dunno about encyclopedic, but it’s pretty high up there, especially judging by some of the more obscure questions they posed.
