in DC: IHOP National Pancake Day 2011

I really should have teleworked today since I live right down the road from the Columbia Heights IHOP…

Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised more than $5.35 million to support charities in the communities in which it operates. While IHOP’s National Pancake Day typically takes place on Shrove Tuesday, this year, the company will host its free pancake event one week earlier on Tuesday, March 1 to build buzz and excitement prior to Shrove Tuesday. With your help, we hope to raise $2.3 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities!

Head to IHOP today, March 1, 2011 from 7am-10pm, for National Pancake Day and receive one complimentary short stack* and if you’re so inclined, make a donation which may also benefit the local Children’s National Medical Center. The local partner charity is the National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS):

On Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 62 IHOP stores, hundreds of LLS volunteers and countless donors and patrons in the Washington, D.C. area will partner together to help raise funds to support the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In 2010, National Pancake Day raised $76,000 marking tremendous growth over the previous year.

Having been to IHOP on promotional days, all I can advise is to be patient. I’ve seen signs up at the one in Columbia Heights for a while and you may or may not remember the line for free pancakes during their grand opening. Even though pancakes would seem to be what they do best, when the demand is high, even the best location’s kitchen slows down. Still, it’s free pancakes and it’s for a good cause. And even if you don’t feel like making a donation, at least make sure to tip your servers… they’re gonna be working hard today!

* There is a limit of one free short stack per guest. The offer is valid at participating restaurants for dine-in online while supplies last and is not valid with any other offer, special coupon or discount.
