Sunrise in DC: Early Morning Cotton Candy Skies
Sunrise has gotten later and it’s gotten a little colder in the morning in recent days, so my early morning walks are starting to be replaced with late morning ones.

I can’t recall if the time change will make a huge difference, because by the time the light comes back, the chill also starts to arrive, so I’m not that inclined to head out about first thing in the morning anyway.
But it has made for some really nice morning views. I have a few different “2-mile” paths I take for my walk, but the ones that go through the nearby park are always the best for seeing good views and my neighbors.
I used to take a photo from my walk every day, then when they all started to blend together, I started doing videos and that habit has sort of stuck. It inadvertently turned into a daily progress or check-in, even when I decide to have a skip day.
When I worked in an office, I would often get to work just as sunrise was happening, so I wouldn’t notice it as much, but being able to hop out of bed, throw on workout clothes and go right for those sunrise walks has been really nice. I might still get up to capture a picture, but if the chilly fall and winter breezes start blowing, I’m gonna stay inside.
I wasn’t always an early riser unless the job called for it, so the gradual change to “old person who gets up early in the morning” still feels strange to me, but it’s nice to be able to wake up for sunrise and either get out for a walk, or firmly decide to stay in bed for a little while longer. 💖
