Housing Envy: Soaring Prices Create Divide (Workplace Tension Between The Owns and Own-Nots)
Well, that’s a no-brainer. What was amusing and frustrating to me was, a while back when home-ownership was being treated like pregnancy and parenthood by some of my coupled friends, “Ya gotta buy a house!” “When are you going to stop throwing your money away and buy something?” “Oh let me tell you about what we’re doing with our place.” This was coming from all sides, work, friends, even people I’d just met.
When 2 bed/bath places are selling for $600-900k (which even realtors find ridiculous, but who are they to turn away money) – it just looks like it will never happen on my little single income + debt (which is shrinking, but still…). As many articles I see about a bubble bursting, I see just as many about there being no such thing happening.
And yeah, it’s totally depressing.
i hear you. i’d love to buy a house and stop paying rent to Charles E. Smith
I just don’t think it’s gonna happen here. What’s depressing is when my folks bought their last house back in the mid 80s (in South Dakota), they paid about what I’ll pay in rent over 3 years.
The thing you have to understand is that those who say it’s not going to burst are those that work in the industry. I know during the tech boom, everyone said it wouldn’t burst. Well those everyone’s were the same people who had massive stock portfolios and dumped a little more seed money into that Tech Firm than they should have, all knowing they were in deep doo-doo if they didn’t start rearranging their portfolios. What is said by the powers that be on the higher reigns is what controls the economy; if you hear from everyone that the market is going to burst, than it will. People will panic and sell, sell, sell. The downside to our economy is that we are a Bandwagon Economy and we drive what much of the world does as far as spending. So our stupid inflation increases based on greed, affect the rest of the globe.
Personally, I’m going to sit back and wait for the foreclosures, oh, and the baby boomer generation to retire and cause a massive influx of single family homes that no one can afford to buy…oops…the Real Estate market didn’t tell ya that one.
Then again, maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
