Stella’s Groove Gone Gay

(thanks to phornax for bringing the story to my attention)

Terry McMillan’s Epilogue to ‘Groove’ Affair :: Author Files for Divorce, Claiming Husband Is Gay

This was an amusing story, I even got past the first use of the phrase down low without totally losing my shit. And then I’m reading it more, and re-reading some of the parts even without the “gay angle”: McMillan, 53, claims that Plummer, 30, is gay and manipulated her into marriage to become a U.S. citizen. He’s also after her money apparently, since “Groove” was written about their meeting and eventual relationship.

Hm, an older person with money being sought after by a younger person with needs entering into a marriage based on something other than love. Yeah, that’s news to me!

But the older person’s a woman? A black woman? And the younger man is gay? Oh no he didn’t! So there’s a disease scare, naturally (that’s good PR and builds sympathy for Terry). And we talk to J.L. -fucking- King, the “exposer” of the Down Low phenomenon, desperately trying to ride his fame beyond just the one book that didn’t do much aside from appease his own ego. And I’m sure Terry’s next book, likely about the breakup, will sell millions.

In a Jan. 14 letter filed with the court, McMillan wrote to Plummer, “The reason you’re going to make a great fag is that most of you guys are just like dogs anyway. . . . You do whatever with whomever pleases you and don’t seem to care about the consequences.”

Enlightenment abounds, eh Terry?

And if I don’t get a phone call from them beforehand, I’m certain at the next family get-together, my opinion will be solicited on the matter. And the disappointment will follow when they find out that… I really don’t care.

It’s not like I’m going to burn my copy of Disappearing Acts or anything, but I’m not going to run to reread it, either.

    Sh*t, people suck.
