in DC: Learn to Knit
I am constantly tempted to hop on the knitting bandwagon, but I’ve managed to resist… so far. But if you’re still on the fence or if you’re a knitter trying to hook a friend onto it, perhaps this free event from The Textile Museum is right up your alley!
Never held knitting needles before but want to learn to knit? Haven’t picked up your needles lately and need a refresher? Knitting is a wonderful year-round habit especially when using lightweight bamboo, silk or linen yarns. Join Craft Yarn Council-certified knitting teacher and designer Debra Lee as she steps you through the basics in a hands-on workshop. Instruction booklet, knitting needles and yarn are included. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll be knitting. Fee: $65/members; $75/non-members. Registration by April 14 is required; space is limited. Call (202) 667-0441, ext. 64 to register.
So far as I know, there’s no holiday on Friday, so I won’t partake, but if you can manage to get the afternoon free, it should be fun. The Textile Museum is in a lovely spot just off Dupont Circle and the grounds are gorgeous especially in Spring. And while the museum is technically free–suggested donations–events like this add to the value and really make it worth the trip.
Wait… it’s a free knitting class, supplies included… and you’re NOT doing it?
You must have a head injury.
whoops. it’s not free. well, supplies included, it’s still worth it.
