video: …what’s this ad for?

This is mostly presented without comment. I’ve seen this ad on various channels over the past few weeks:

That’s just the 15-second spot, Tums has posted the full spot on YouTube. Something I hadn’t even noticed until this morning, my partner pointed out that the man’s date covers the eyes of her teddy bear. I’ve seen the other ads where the food fights the eater, but this one is uh… yeah.

You’ve got to wonder if someone pitched this ad just to see if they could get away with it. Or this was the ad they wanted the client to turn down to make their other ad look better and it backfired–you designers know what I’m talking about.

* The screen captures I took remind me of a phrase used a lot in the comic book scans LiveJournal groups, “Context is for the weak!

    Wow, that is A LOT of mustard coming from one wavy line on it from the beginning. LOL. Love the shielding of teddy’s eyes.

    I knew that I was crazy. No one ever commented though. That commercial was so homoerotic
