Reel Affirmations XTRA moves to Landmark’s E Street Cinema

WASHINGTON DC’S ONLY LGBTQ MONTHLY FILM SERIES MOVES TO NATIONAL THEATER CHAIN

Reel Affirmations XTRA: Washington DC’s International LGBTQ Monthly Film Series is making a groundbreaking move, relocating their monthly LGBTQ film screenings from the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Forum to Landmark’s E Street Cinema. Landmark Theatres is the nation’s largest theater chain dedicated to exhibiting and marketing independent film. This move represents the next level in presenting LGBTQ cinematic stories at a mainstream arthouse in the nation’s capital. Landmark’s E Street Cinema is located in the heart of downtown DC, at 555 11th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004. Reel Affirmations XTRA screens films on the third or fourth Thursday of every month throughout the year.

“We are extraordinarily proud to be moving Reel Affirmations XTRA to the E Street Cinema. It is an accomplishment that we’re all eagerly anticipating and we are very thankful. We fully appreciated the space that we’ve been utilizing at HRC for our film screenings for almost five years, and are very thankful. Now, this move will bring LGBTQ filmmaking, on a monthly basis, to the forefront of the entire film loving community,” says Kimberley Bush, Director of Arts and Cultural Programs of The DC Center, The Community Center for the LGBTQ Community, including Reel Affirmations.

Upcoming Screenings

Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 pm: Transmilitary

Directed by Gabriel Silverman and co-directed by Fiona Dawson, Transmilitary is the follow-up to the Emmy-nominated short film Transgender, at War and in Love. With approximately 15,500 transgender people serving in the U.S. military (notably the largest transgender employer in the U.S.), they must conceal their gender identity because military policies ban their service. Transmilitary chronicles the lives of four individuals (Senior Airman Logan Ireland, Corporal Laila Villanueva, Captain Jennifer Peace, and First Lieutenant El Cook) defending their country’s freedom while fighting for their own. They put their careers and their families’ livelihoods on the line by coming out as transgender to top brass officials in the Pentagon in hopes of attaining the equal right to serve. The ban was lifted in 2016, but with President Trump now trying to reinstate it, their futures hang in the balance again. There will be a Director Talkback with Gabriel Silverman, Fiona Dawson, Capt. Peace and Lt. Dremann.

Thursday, June 27th at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm: Steamroom Stories

Directed by JC Calciano, Steamroom Stories spins the tale of a failing cosmetics magnate Sally Fay (Traci Lords) who will stop at nothing to possess the waters of the Steam Room to help lift her sagging empire. What she doesn’t count on is the Steam Room Guys banding together to thwart her evil plans.

Tickets Information: General admission tickets are $14.00.
