Seen in DC: Rotisserie Chicken Eat-Off

Yep. We did it, chat. DC has its own upcoming rotisserie chicken themed public event.

On one of my recent morning walks, I saw a flyer posted on the way to Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park. And it was a nice reminder that, even in the face of the horrors people can still bring their most ridiculous selves to remain silly.

Event flyer. Watch 'em eat rotisserie chicken . Who can eat faster? Watch two people race to eat an entire rotisserie chicken . Malcolm X Park. April 5th at 12pm.
Watch two people race to eat an entire rotisserie chicken…

Get ready to witness the most unnecessary sporting event ever held in a public park….a rotisserie chicken speed eating showdown. Come cheer on and question the life choices of two brave souls as they race to devour their own rotisserie chicken.

Possibly inspired by this event in Philadelphia from a few years back as a man invited the public to watch him consume his 40th rotisserie chicken in as many days.

I’ve seen rotisserie chicken eating events pop up in other cities and while it didn’t have the odd renaissance that bacon did in our food culture, I feel like more people can relate to walking past the hot food section in their grocery store (or Costco) and grabbing one for dinner.

I confess that my local grocery store does better fried chicken than rotisserie, but there’s a supermarket nearby that has a deal on it every Monday and I’m tempted to make the walk over there. Even though, when pressed, my own roast chicken tastes better, but it takes more time and is a little more expensive than grabbing a roughly $5 seasoned and cooked whole chicken–even if admittedly on the smaller side.

Generally noon on Saturday is when I’m having brunch adventures with my friend, and the weather may be a little cloudy/rainy, but it might be an amusing diversion. With over 50 people signed up as either Yes or Maybe, I’m sure there will at least be some good social media posts.

And while I already bought some groceries for at-home dinners this week, I might grab a rotisserie chicken to round out the weekend! 🍗💖
