I’ve had worse
Pizza is a lot like sex. When it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
I wish the same could be said for low-cal/light frozen meals. My only red-meat allowance will be for the nukeable meals I haven’t yet consumed, but today’s doesn’t apply anyway. It’s a new product from Lucerne, Safeway’s in-house label, Eating Right. I have the Roasted Turkey today with carrots and cornbread croutons. It’s actually not too bad, but it suffers the usual flaws in that when it’s frozen, you kinda get what you get as far as placement, and anything with croutons or dressing really needs the gravy to hit it otherwise you get crunchy nuked quickly-hardening cubes instead of good soppy bread. The calorie count is 320 with 80 fat cals, and as Bill has warned me so many times, I checked out the sodium count: 790mg, that’s 33% of my daily value! So I won’t be adding salt to anything else today unless absolutely necessary and it’ll be a liter of water in the afternoon for me, but overall it was a good meal. I bought a few others since they were on sale, and I hope they all manage to be at least as good as this one. My freezer usually is full of nukeable meals that I never end up eating because they taste so foul and they get tossed on the next fridge clean-out.
My co-worker looked at it and asked if it would really hold me until dinner. Normally it probably wouldn’t, but if my willpower remains strong, it will. Too bad they don’t give out Green Lantern rings for dieting skills.
Having to watch what the packets say really sucks (and why DO they all taste like reconstituted cardboard?); doing it myself at the moment – much sympathy!
I need to get my willpower back. I was off work today and ordered a meat lovers stuffed crust pizza. I hate a little more than half of it…. and had a regular pepsi to wash it down.
I feel dirty now.
Yikes, not even a diet pepsi? I’m cheating a wee bit tonight, having shrimp fried rice, with apples and grapes.
I have had several of these new “eating right” frozen meals from Lucerne. Most of them are not bad. I really enjoyed the spaghetti and meat sauce. The roasted turkey was so so, but I had a bad taste the rest of the afternoon. Mine did not have any croutons, but rather a weird mix of something that I assumed was “stuffing”. I wish the meals didn’t have as much sodium. However, they are nice for quick and easy meals that I can bring to work instead of eating out every day.
