I think I’m pretty late to the game with this one, but last night I watched Heroes combined with the interactive 2Screen site on the show’s page. Of course it’s sponsored by Nissan as for all things Heroes related, NBC is totally their bitch, but it’s really cute. It syncs in time with the broadcast and isn’t too obtrusive, and is very much like Pop-Up Videos used to be. You’ll see snippets about the show and actors, but they also have a running game for the episode that asks trivia questions and polls, “Should Mohinder trust Bob?” for instance. It definitely added a cute extra element to watching last night’s show, and it gave away a bit of information that I suppose we could have arrived at in a Sherlock Holmes fashion, and even knowing that info just leads to more questions. It was about what happened to Sylar’s powers.
The trivia questions are timed and I wasn’t paying close attention, plus I missed one completely so when they showed a leader board near the end of the episode, I was over 2,000 points from the rankings, but I’d definitely watch and participate again. It’s the kind of thing that if web tv providers like MSN and AOL had done in the past as something cute to overlay atop people’s favorite shows, I think those types of services would have really taken off.
The ending scenes plus next week’s previews look good. I can’t wait.
