Once again, I ain’t bov’vered by the WGA strike because I’m finding some pretty cool stuff to watch. Of course it’s all from the BBC which, if I had my druthers, I’d find a way to get a direct feed to and splice it onto my home cable box.

Ever since I saw him in a bit part in Look Around You explaining the meaning of Hot Jon, I will admit to a crush on Nick Frost. Maybe it’s just something about his little bucktoothed smile. My recent finds have been Hyperdrive and Man Stroke Woman.

Hyperdrive is sci-fi comedy worthy of Douglas Adams, we follow the crew of the HMS Camden Lock in their heroic mission to protect British interests in a changing galaxy. This usually consists of them trying to sell British business/retail space to aliens or finding races to take on their nuclear waste disposal facilities.

Man Stroke Woman is just a sketch comedy show that’s sketch comedy the way I like it. Regular situations with just a little tweak on them. I think American shows don’t know when to leave enough alone and don’t understand the effectiveness of understated comedy. A lot of life is inherently funny, you just have to look at it from a slightly different perspective. It’s like the show Spoons, but I can’t seem to find that anywhere except on a Region 2 dvd. I’d still buy it, I just wouldn’t be able to watch it!

This video clip from the show is something many of us can identify with. Our first tequila shot. I’m just glad that my friends were a lot nicer than this bloke’s.

I’m about ready to do my own backflips as today’s been a bit of a retro cocktail day, though really any cocktail with a silly/obscure name can be called retro, can’t it? Earlier I made a Blue Cowboy, which is also in honor of Heath Ledger’s passing, seriously. The conflicted and then tortured character of Ennis will be one that Ledger is most remembered for. Currently I’m having a Flying Dutchman, which isn’t exactly that different since a Cowboy uses Blue Curaçao and Dutchman uses Triple Sec.

I might play some games, might watch more video, dunno really. Whatever I do, thanks to these cocktails, I expect that I’ll sleep well regardless! 😉
