health: quelle apropos
Health Care Reform seems well on its way to happening, and I’ve got surgery in the morning. Funny how that happened! Not to get too much into it, but after a visit to the plastic surgeon, she’s decided that a biopsy is in order to determine the best way to proceed. She believes that they are still just keloids, but this is more a just in case type of thing.
I haven’t had surgery for anything since I was a kid* and believe you me, I’m more than a little freaked out about it. I don’t care for hospitals, as much for the smell as the vibes and the way that most hospital employees just seem so indifferent. Still, as scared as I may be about surgery, I am really tired of having my forehead look fucked up. People stare, they can’t help themselves it seems. People have made jokes, even my friends have made jokes–they aren’t funny. Thankfully a recent trip for hats proved fruitful, but around the office I have been tempted many times to say “Hey, my eyes are down here, thanks.” It’d be so nice if I could just roll the clock back to September and burn all the furniture in my bedroom which, considering the bedbugs, would have probably been a good idea anyway! 😀
Still, I have great friends who’ll take care of me, seeing me to the hospital and home safely. I have a few days off from work–obviously–and I’ll be able to rest up while they send the bits of me off to pathology and stir their potions, cast their spells and sort out what’s wrong with me. And in the meantime, I have my DC Comics Snuggie knockoff, I mean Comfy Throw Blanket with Sleeves. Yeah… I’m not proud, I’m just a geek.
So if my posting schedule remains spotty for the next few weeks, now you know why–I’m going under the knife. Perhaps when I’m back for my next visit, I can get them to throw in a little under-the-radar cosmetic surgery too. Maybe get my eyes done or put in some pectoral implants! 😛
* Oral surgery, sure, but that hardly counts. And dentistry has its own collection of anxieties, anyway.
