quotes: Honey, you need to eat!

Seen in this morning’s Express:

I don’t care about being stick-thin. I don’t want stuff to jiggle. Really skinny actresses make me hungry—I see them and think, Honey, you need to eat! I’m lucky I don’t have to live like that. I feel my best when I’m a toned, not flabby, size 8. Women come up to me and say, ‘You’re beautiful and confident, and that makes me feel I can be, too.’

Miranda Lambert, Self Magazine [June 2012]

While I might paraphrase her quote, “It’s OK to be fat and lazy sometimes.” to it’s OK to give yourself a break from obsessing about your weight, I appreciate her healthy attitude. I don’t really listen to–a lot of–country music, but it seems that modern country stars have to maintain camera-ready/slim figures similar to pop stars.

As I’m currently struggling with shedding some pounds myself,1 it’s nice to see people extolling the virtues of maintaining an average healthy figure instead of pushing themselves towards either rail-thin or mini-hulk.

Plus, Miranda Lambert still gets props from me for being among the music artists with the guts to be outspoken about Chris Brown.

1 Every 6-month visit to the doctor after treatment has shown a weight gain. And while he never says anything bad about it, he always asks “Is that normal for you?” I dunno doc, is finding it harder to shed pounds as one approaches 40 normal?! But I’m not bitter about it…
