metro: it is dark… again

Navy Yard metro station in near darkness Harkening back to a few years ago, a quick snap from Wednesday afternoon when… something was up with the power near Navy Yard. I saw the lights flicker in the office and thought I heard the HVAC reset, but no one else seemed to notice. No traffic lights were out and nothing else seemed out of the ordinary until I got to metro.

Getting on a metro escalator can be daunting at the best of times, but standing at the top of one and then descending into what appears to be total darkness definitely gives one pause. But then again… the escalators were working1, so it can’t have been that bad. Still, there were others riding down with me who were equally confused.

When I got to the faregates, I heard a tech talking to the WMATA employee on duty that something “blew” and they were fixing it, so it must have been fairly minor. Faregates were working, trains were running, etc. but for a moment, it looked like I was going to have a long time getting home.

1 It’s a WMATA miracle!
