food: The Baltimore Bomb
I’m not really much of a dessert person. I’ve said it before, usually to gasps or shock, but it bears repeating. Unless there’s something special on the sweets menu, I often pass. So even though I saw the Dangerously Delicious Pies food truck across the street after being let out of work early ahead of the holiday, I didn’t really think I’d see anything I wanted. Not that their pies aren’t excellent, but I’d had a pretty decent sized lunch so wasn’t likely to be all that tempted.
…and then I saw the menu description for The Baltimore Bomb: crumbled Berger cookies baked into a vanilla chess pie. I decided I might just have to check this out for myself. A quick order and nicely staked-out spot on a lovely 68° day later, I opened my to-go container…
So, y’know, WOW. Berger cookies are one of the few things I will bend my sweets rule for, and I’ve never been able to make a really good pie, except for sweet potato. I never get that ability to cut into it without all the contents either immediately dribbling out or refusing to budge underneath the knife.
About the only thing I was worried about what the chocolate oozing off the form and onto my white shirt. This is such a good combination of sweet and creamy that I may have to reconsider my stance on baking just to try making it myself.
I couldn’t make a habit of this, but if the perfect opportunity to indulge presented itself in future, I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again… and again! Here’s hoping everyone’s got a fun holiday weekend ahead!
