We’re S.H.O.P.P.I.N.G…
Gods bless tax refunds, huh? It’s been a good few days of shopping for me. I finally broke down and bought a new television set, 37″ LCD HDTV. I really couldn’t justify anything larger in my living space and that may still be too big, hard to say until it’s in here. Actually I guess that was all I really picked up yesterday but when something is such a large purchase it really gives you pause… and panic attacks.
I looked at HDTVs over the weekend and had a really crap experience at Circuit City. The TVs looked gorgeous and the department was really well laid out, organized by size, type, etc. So I was going in thinking 32″, nice and simple and good for my space. Gregory and I started with the way-too-big-for-my-place TVs just because we could. 🙂 While I’m finally looking at the 30-40 inch range, one of the CC reps asks me if he can help me. I say sure and I start to explain 1: what I’m looking for, 2: what I already have and 3: what my concer– at that point he cuts me off and says, “Well, let me know when you’re ready to buy something,” and walks off.
I looked at Gregory for a minute and I said with a bit of disbelief, “Did I say something wrong?” There wasn’t anyone else in the department at that point, so it couldn’t have been that he saw a bigger sale and decided to go with that. Thankfully, I was in a pretty good mood that day so I shrugged it off. However I did know that I would not be buying a TV from Circuit City because clearly they can’t even help me answer some simple questions to make some choices. My concern was whether a 37″ screen would fit in the same space as my current 27″ television as the bookshelves on either side of it are kinda tight in there. I was able to sort out on my own that I’ll be fine, but still, how can they expect people to buy something if they’re only seen as walking bags of cash?
So now I have an old TV to find a home for. I might go with Craigslist or Freecycle or see if any local charity could use it. Regardless I’m going to have to enlist the help of a friend to move it around as it’s really pretty heavy. I know that I’ve been able to lift it on my own before, but it’s far better with help.
I also picked up the special edition of Family Guy: Blue Harvest from Amazon, so I’ll have something fun to watch on the new TV! Now that I think about it, I need to get Futurama: Bender’s Big Score too. Otherwise tonight will be checking my components to see what already uses HDMI and what will need to be replaced/upgraded. Of course I can keep using the same components with the new set, but I won’t be getting the best out of the equipment.
I guess the Circuit City boy was looking for a bigger sale. His response is more appropriate for “just looking.” To anyone in retail, the customers are simply walking bags of cash. I wonder if Circuit City has the commission system. A commission’s a commission, so there’s no reason he couldn’t have tried to help you find the TV.
👿 Right now I am trying to straighten out a mess w/ CC myself. I finally have a ball rolling but I don’t know if has stopped. If I don’t hear something in a day or so-I will be re-emailing them. I don’t like CC and I will never buy anything there again. What an ass that you dealt with.
Let me know what you think about “Blue Harvest”. I was disappointed. I didn’t even crack a smile.
But YAY for HDTV!
