into the burbs…

Metro’d out to Clarendon to meet up with James and tool around a bit. Despite the heat I just had to get out of the house, stir craziness was catching up with me. We hit Silver Diner, walked around bit, hung out for a while, had dinner at Spider Kelly’s and hit Boccato Gelato for dessert.

On our walk we also caught sight of some people from our past that we aren’t in touch with anymore. James mentioned that he and a friend had actually retconned someone from their pasts. I like the idea of that when the need arises. Otherwise sometimes it just happens that, for whatever reason, someone is no longer a part your life. In my case, I can think of an ex or two that I wouldn’t mind retconning. 😀

I’m becoming less wary of heading out to the metro-accessible burbs and finding that it’s quite fun. Unfortunately though since I haven’t had the desire to shop at all, it’s hard to find much else to do aside from eating and drinking, but we manage.

Speaking of drinking, this weekend saw the making of my Mojito Mint Iced Tea:

  • 1 pitcher of sweet mint iced tea (for 3 qts, I used ¾ cup sugar)
  • lime juice (fresh or bottled)
  • rum

Fill a tall glass with ice, add a shot of rum, a splash of lime juice and fill with the tea. Feel free to garnish with lime slices and mint leaves, but totally unnecessary. A nice cocktail to combat the summer heat and also easy to make completely virgin.

Happy drinking!

(Yes, if I ever have a cooking show, it will be all cocktail recipes just to be cheeky.)

interesting link about retconning. i’ve made it a point to call friends i’ve not spoken to in decades just to reconnect and catch up. it’s comforting to know they’re doing well. the burbs are where it’s at! i wish my city friends were less reticent about taking the commuter rails out here.

@sean808080: I definitely think the retcon is for people that it is better you don’t have contact with again, or sometimes even think about anymore except as a “period in your life.”

For me it might really be my last roommate because the only thing I took away from that was that roommates are not for me, but thinking about the detailed day-to-day of that experience is only likely to leave me with negative feelings. I wouldn’t go so far as to re-write my life story to put them out of it, but I will rarely bring it up in conversation.

Some hot Saturday afternoon, when there is nowhere to go and nothing to do, I will come over and introduce you to Jacked-Up Lemonade, a very special cocktail mixed in a pitcher and involving liberal amounts of Jack Daniels.

  4. Well I’m glad you made it out into the burbs. I miss the late night meals at the Silver Diner in Clarendon. I’ve never heard of the word retconning until tonight. It has been very interesting running into old acquaintances and friends of friends.

I actually found you thru James (Myriadian) who knew my ex-roommate Brian who also knew James’ roommate Chris who I knew thru his ex Matt. What a small world it is!!!
