walking: 8 mile
I’m gonna need to work my way up to doing that again, truly. Every now and then, when we’ve had a really nice weather weekend in the midst of winter, a bunch of friends would go for a little walk in familiar or unfamiliar areas. The larger the group, the slower we’d make our way places and the less ground we’d cover. Pairing up with just James, however, we started at Columbia Heights, walked through the zoo, swung past the American University campus and grabbed the metro home from Tenleytown.
Aisha Tyler has a joke about working out, feeling great when you go to bed and then waking up paralyzed. This wasn’t that bad, but I definitely felt the effects when I was watching tv last night. Since we’re just now getting back the great weather, I’m not used to those days when you’re out and away from the house all day long. It was a great walk though and we each got some fun photos–his/mine.
My inner nerd was still hurting, however. In the second half of the trip, every time we hit an incline I felt it. And we managed to have a whole lot more uphill than downhill, darn it! But I’d only ever driven around the AU area, so it was interesting to see the campus. And very cool to see so many people out and about. People in the neighborhood areas hanging out on porches and in front yards, it makes me really miss having a porch or balcony. Sitting at home with all the windows open is nice, but not the same.
However I won’t complain too much since the usual stereotypical “short Spring” in DC may take place again this year. I’ll take breezy over sweaty for as long as we can get it!
We’ll have to toughen up those chicken legs and get you into competitive speed walking. 🙂
latest entry: More zoo
@James: CHICKEN LEGS?! You said yourself that you’ve never even seen my legs. *nyahh*
Just a heads up, i was on the dc improv site today and noticed Aisha Tyler is coming to town. Thought you might want to know.
@Brian: Oh I am quite aware. Following her (or her people, at least) on twitter ended up winning me two free tickets to see her in April. I haven’t gushed on the blog about it yet, but it’s impending!
