video: OMG, Shooz!
Watching the FOX Sunday night line up* wasn’t too bad last night. Though having friends on IM and twitter to snark about it definitely helps. I made the comment that Seth McFarlane really needs to stop miring his jokes in 80s and 90s pop culture because, well, it’s 2009 now. Assuming that he wants viewers under the age of 29 to watch the show, he might want to step it up a bit. Even so, this bit on The Cleveland Show last night cracked me up both for the content and the background music, which was a definite in-joke but you’d have to have lived through the era:

Mmm-hm, that’s right, they went there.
Aside from one twitter joke on Cleveland and some texting jokes on Family Guy though, they haven’t really touched a lot of current culture. Not one crack about Twilight and maybe some bare references to Harry Potter or Facebook. Hell, they had Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd in a Spies Like Us homage last night.
I keep hesitating to call it “Family Guy with black people,” but The Cleveland Show is able to stand on its own all right. Still, it highlights that if Family Guy gave more screen time to the supporting characters too as The Simpsons has done, the show might not remain in the “Eh, I guess it’s funny enough.” category.
Busting out Nu Shooz though? Brilliant.
* I refuse to call it Animation Domination… I just can’t. Not while Adult Swim still carries The Venture Bros.
