metro: a little… f’d up over Columbus Day weekend
It’s possible that some DC metro area residents, visiting out of towners, etc. don’t know about this so here’s a little reminder.
Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter stations to close; No Green Line service at L’Enfant Plaza
The Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations will be closed, and the Green Line also will be closed at the L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station from 10:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 9, through Monday, Oct. 12, with no service at these stations for three consecutive days. The Blue and Orange Line at the L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station will not be affected. Service will resume at all Metrorail stations on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
They’ve created a brochure/PDF with information on shuttle buses and a revised map of the lines over the weekend.
I am glad that they’re trying to go above and beyond with the shuttle buses–some will make stops between Navy Yard and Gallery Place and some won’t–but as someone that’s waited on metro shuttle buses before, it’s going to be a pain in the ass unless they have their sh*t together. And this won’t affect most people, even the north-side Green Line riders, but for those of us at The Front, it’s really going to suck.
So if I say “I’m not sure,” about going somewhere this weekend, don’t hate… appreciate. Because I’m likely having to decide between a pricy cab, a lengthy walk or a long wait for a shuttle bus.* And it’s still unfortunate because there’s a lot going on this weekend that I’d like to catch between some food and wine events, a friend in town for a sporting event and of course the National Equality March and all the parties resulting from it.
I ain’t really mad at Metro, because track work needs to be done, but it’s still a pain in the butt. 🙄
* Or if the other night is any indication of my new ‘hood, a long wait for a cab as well. Where’s my Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tube Man when I need him?
