fitness: walk for me, walk for me…
I’ll see you after the function!
Hm, I may have to add that one into my walking mix. I’m trying really hard to get back in the habit of taking my weekend walks. This summer has been milder than usual, but the humidity isn’t always letting up and frankly with some of my later nights out, there’s no waking up at the crack of dawn to get in 3-5 miles.
But I’ve been getting better about it. Yesterday morning and the previous Saturday, just 3’ish miles down 16th St NW through Meridian Hill Park and back home up 15th–one of the best streets for walking. I admit that it isn’t as much fun walking by myself as it was with my ex, and I probably won’t be doing any pre-sunrise walks through Meridian Hill or Rock Creek Parks as I don’t want to end up reenacting the intro to a Law & Order spin-off. But I usually listen to a good steady beat with disco tracks or my “Diva Crossing” playlist1 which has ups and downs.
Those slower songs have really come in handy when I need to bring the pace down a little bit. Because of where I live, I always end up coming home uphill, so the last mile or so is a cooldown whether I like it or not. I’ve never been good at running, but walking at about 4 miles an hour? I’ll take it.
Part of the impending birthday anxiety is from weight and body issues–not exclusive to birthday-related anxiety, obviously–so I’m hoping the weather settles down soon so I can get more distance in during the week. Because, let’s face it, I’m not going to stop drinking so I’d better offset my imbibing with exercise!
