Gives Me Geeky Goose Pimples
It’s no surprise that I’m a geek. I mean really no surprise. And I love me some old-school sci-fi. I have yet to grab the “re-mastered” original series Star Trek yet, which Jack tells me is fantastic. Region 2 be damned, however, it was a real treat to pop on an episode or two of The Tomorrow People before hitting the sack last night. And it was worth it just to hear the theme song, which used to make my mother look in from the next room and say “Is that weird show on again?!” Right before Nickelodeon stopped playing them, they ran a marathon of the series. My mother must have gone crazy hearing this over and over again:
I don’t know if there are any other Tomorrow People fans out there, but I was so in love with this show. I discovered it before I really got into Doctor Who, and oddly enough TP gets a bit of ridicule. It wasn’t that bad or cheesy plot-wise, than anything else of the time, it just didn’t have a huge budget so the effects were a bit campy. Someone has even called Heroes a modern twist of The Tomorrow People, though the idea of new stage of evolution is hardly new, hell they likely got the “homo superior” idea from the X-Men (and the term from David Bowie). The intro above is from “The Living Skins” serial where aliens, resembling giant bubbles, attempted to take over the world by initially masquerading as a new fashionable style of jumpsuit: Bubbleskins. How could you not love a plot like that?
Bring on the writers’ strike, I’m kicking it old school back to 1973 up in here. 🙂
We don’t discuss the 1990s revival series…
