video: Coco called it!
Just so I can break the cycle of posting about my own health issues, this recent news* just cracked me up. From the Miami New Times, Christian right leader George Rekers takes vacation with “rent boy”:
The pictures on the Rentboy.com profile show a shirtless young man with delicate features, guileless eyes, and sun-kissed, hairless skin. The profile touts his “smooth, sweet, tight ass” and “perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)” and explains he is “sensual,” “wild,” and “up for anything”–as long you ask first. And as long as you pay.
On April 13, the “rent boy” (whom we’ll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart.
That man was George Alan Rekers, of North Miami–the callboy’s client and, as it happens, one of America’s most prominent anti-gay activists. Rekers, a Baptist minister who is a leading scholar for the Christian right, left the terminal with his gay escort, looking a bit discomfited when a picture of the two was snapped with a hot-pink digital camera.
For those of you that don’t watch enough BBC America, rent boy is a much more genteel way to say male prostitute. This, just like complaints of Facebook not respecting privacy, is nothing new as you just print the same story with new names and dates on it. It’s just a matter of laying odds on which right-wing religious nut is going to get found out next!
It brought to mind part of a monologue from drag performance artist Miss Coco Peru as she discusses what would happen if all gay people really did go to hell…
If you can’t tell what was bleeped out for propriety, here’s a hint: s*ck d*ck.
To be honest, most of us haven’t needed to go to hell yet, social networking already outed many of my high school tormentors and collegiate homophobes. And most of us could care less if John Smith turns out to be gay, but if John Smith happens to be one of the most outspoken opponents of queer equality…? That’s a problem and just like CA senator Roy Ashburn, I don’t expect anyone in the community to embrace Rekers once all the facts come out.** 🙄
* Seen at Joe. My. God.
** See what I did there?
