Word

Just a thought passing through my head. In browsing livejournal and other blogs lately I’ve seen people using words that many would consider objectionable. I’m not talking about dropping f-bombs, but words that are generally used to single out a slice of the population. If called on it, some people will say, “It’s just a word, I don’t mean anything by it,” as a means to apologize. Except that the purpose of words is to communicate meaning. Maybe you didn’t mean what someone else thought you did, but don’t try to pass it off as a meaningless statement. And if you have enough of these incidents, maybe you just shouldn’t say anything in the first damn place.
