gender neutrality was just a red herring

This is silly, I know. Amazon was looking at my recent clicks and suggested some things to me, one of them being a board game based on the series Yu-Gi-Oh!: Capsule Monsters, which I mentioned yesterday. Now while some giggled at me, I found the series not to be total crap, though from my searching around the web, it’s pretty much been aired everywhere else and the US is the last to get it. And of course US airings of marketable cartoons means it’s time for the toys! Now I have no idea how the game is played and no interest in trying it out, but the second bullet from the ad copy caught my eye.

Product Features

  • Defend your king from attack by your opponent by unleashing Capsule Monsters to defend and attack
  • Based on episodes from the hit TV show, Capsule Monsters Starter Set comes with everything boys need to play
  • The first player to defeat the opposing king is the winner.
  • 2 Players
  • Recommended Age Range 7 and Up

Why? While the show is fairly male-centric, the episodes of Capsule Monsters features a girl (Anzu/Téa) as a main character and she participates in the plot of the show instead of just being the Mary Sue. Did it make any sense to say ‘boys’ instead of ‘you’ or ‘your children’?

*shrug* As I said, just something silly I noticed while trolling Amazon for booty.
