Confidence? Strike a Wonder Woman Pose
The Wonder Woman Pose, who knew? From Woman’s Own magazine in the UK comes an interesting tip for increasing your confidence:
Need a quick and easy confidence boost? Just strike a pose like Wonder Woman! Research from the US shows that standing tall with your legs apart, hands on hips and shoulders back to open up your torso increases the assertive hormone testosterone while simultaneously levels of the stress hormone cortisol. A few minutes spent in this stance will do the trick. Which means the next time there’s a situation where I need to increase my testosterone – I’m going to need a Wonder Woman cape.
The advice is based on Professor Amy Cuddy’s body language study which found that certain “high power poses” grant people more confidence. I’ve always found a lot of body language advice difficult as it often goes against what you’ve naturally developed over years, but this whole faking yourself out thing? Yeah, I could get down with that.
So, “fake it ’til you make it” is good advice after all…
